Terms of Service

1. Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Baby Name Finder mobile application and related services. By downloading, creating an account in, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

These Terms incorporate by reference our Privacy Policy and End User License Agreement (EULA).

2. Who can use the App

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your state, if higher) and able to form a binding contract. The App is intended for expecting and prospective parents. By using it, you represent that you meet these requirements.

3. Your account

  • You provide a name and email to create an account, or join a partner's session using a partner code.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide and for activity under your account.
  • Sign-in may use a passwordless code or link sent to your email. Keep access to your email secure and do not share sign-in links.
  • Notify us promptly at hello@threadtheword.com if you believe your account was accessed without authorization.

You may delete your account at any time via Edit Parents Profile -> Delete Account in the App, or by contacting us. Deleting your account removes your personal data from our systems as described in our Privacy Policy; your linked partner's data is not affected unless they also delete their account.

4. Partner sharing

The App is designed for two people to choose names together. When you invite a partner (or join a partner's session):

  • names you like may be shared with your linked partner so the App can show matches;
  • your first name and relevant activity are visible to your linked partner;
  • invite only someone who consents to participate. Do not enter another person's email without permission.

You may stop sharing or remove history using in-app controls (for example Clear Name History) or by contacting us.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the App for any unlawful purpose or in breach of these Terms;
  • access another user's account or data without authorization;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the App except as permitted by law;
  • interfere with, disrupt, or attempt unauthorized access to the App or its systems;
  • submit content that is unlawful, infringing, abusive, or that you lack rights to submit;
  • use automated means to access or scrape the App without our written permission.

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms.

6. The name content

The App provides baby names with meanings, origins, and similar information for personal, informational use. Content is provided "as is" and may contain errors. It is for inspiration only and is not authoritative linguistic, cultural, or legal advice.

7. Your content

If you add names or other content, you retain your rights. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display that content as needed to operate the App for you and your linked partner. You represent that you have the right to submit any content you add.

8. Personalized blankets and external purchases

The App may let you take a favorite name to the Thread The Word website to order a personalized keepsake blanket. Purchases are not made within the App. When you buy, you leave the App and the order is governed by the Thread The Word website terms and conditions at https://www.threadtheword.com/terms-and-conditions/. These App Terms do not govern website purchases, pricing, delivery, or refunds.

The App is currently free to download and use. If we introduce paid features or in-app purchases, additional terms and app-store payment rules will apply and will be disclosed before you pay.

9. App stores

You obtain the App through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Your use is also subject to the applicable store's terms. Apple's Standard EULA may apply on iOS in addition to or instead of our custom EULA, as configured in App Store Connect. We - not Apple or Google - are solely responsible for the App and its content, except as otherwise required by applicable store terms.

10. Availability and changes

We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue the App or any feature at any time. We aim to give reasonable notice of material changes where practical but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service.

11. Intellectual property

The App, its design, branding, "Baby Name Finder" and "Thread The Word" names and logos, and the compiled name database are owned by us or our licensors and protected by U.S. and international intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable license as set out in the EULA. No other rights are granted.

12. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that content is complete or accurate.

Some states do not allow exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you. You may have other rights that vary by state.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE AND OUR OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE APP IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) USD $100 OR (B) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, IF ANY.

Some states do not allow limitation of certain damages, so some of the above may not apply to you.

14. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Company and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the App, your content, or your breach of these Terms.

15. Dispute resolution and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules that would apply another jurisdiction's laws.

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the App shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Catawba County, North Carolina, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there, except where prohibited by law.

16. Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or discontinue the App. On termination, your license ends. Sections that by their nature should survive (including Sections 7, 11-15) will survive.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version at https://babynamefinder.threadtheword.com/terms and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be notified in the App or by email. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
