1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use Baby Name Finder. It applies to the mobile app on iOS and Android and to related account features.
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. What information we collect
Information you provide
- Account details - your name and email address when you sign up (or when you join a partner's session using a partner code).
- Partner details - the name and email address you provide to invite your partner, so we can send them an invitation and link your sessions.
- Baby details you choose to enter - for example expected gender, expected due date, and preferences. These are optional and used to personalize the experience.
- Your activity in the App - names you like, skip, favorite, or add yourself, and names you and your partner have matched on.
- Support correspondence - if you contact us, we retain the messages and contact details you provide.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data - we collect app interactions (such as screens viewed, sign-up steps, logins, and outbound shop link taps), session length, device type, operating system version, and app version. Before you create an account, these events use an anonymous device identifier only. After you sign up or sign in, we may also link events to your couple's session in our admin tools so we can understand how the App is used and provide support. We do not store your email address or name in these analytics events.
- Crash diagnostics - through crash-reporting tools (see Section 6), we may collect diagnostic or crash logs and related device information.
We do not knowingly collect payment card details in the App. Personalized blanket purchases are completed on the Thread The Word website; payment is handled there, not in the App (see Section 7).
3. Sensitive information
Some details you may enter (such as a pregnancy due date or a baby's expected gender) may be considered sensitive under certain laws. We collect this only when you choose to provide it, use it solely to operate and personalize the App for you and your partner, and do not use it for unrelated purposes. You may leave these fields blank or remove them at any time.
4. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage your account and authenticate sign-in;
- connect you with your partner and show names you have both liked ("matches");
- save and sync your liked names, favorites, and preferences across your devices;
- personalize the experience (for example using your name and baby details);
- send service messages, such as partner invitations and sign-in links;
- provide customer support;
- monitor, maintain, secure, and improve the App, including through analytics and crash diagnostics;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service and EULA.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We share information only as follows:
- With your partner - when you and your partner are linked, the App shares names you have liked so you can see matches, and shows your first name to your partner. Your partner does not receive your sign-in codes.
- With service providers - cloud hosting, database, email delivery, analytics, and crash-reporting providers who process data on our behalf under contract (see Section 6).
- With Apple and Google - to the extent needed to distribute the App through app stores, subject to their privacy policies.
- For legal reasons - to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect our rights, or prevent harm.
- Business transfer - if our business is sold or reorganized, information may transfer to the successor, subject to this policy.
6. Analytics, admin usage data, and crash tools
We use analytics to understand how the App is used and to improve it. This includes:
- In-app acquisition analytics - anonymous events before sign-up (for example first app open and onboarding steps), and session-linked events after sign-up or sign-in (for example screens viewed, logins, account deletion, and taps that open the Thread The Word website). Session-linked data is used in our internal admin dashboard to help with support and product decisions; it is not sold and is not used for advertising.
- Google Firebase (Firestore hosting and related services) - stores app data and analytics events described above. Privacy info: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
- Crash reporting (where enabled) - diagnostic data to fix stability issues.
These providers process data on our behalf under contract. The App contains no third-party advertising and no ad tracking.
7. Personalized blanket purchases
The App may let you take a favorite name to the Thread The Word website to order a personalized keepsake blanket. When you tap "Buy," you leave the App. Information you enter on the website (such as delivery address and payment) is handled under the Thread The Word website privacy policy https://www.threadtheword.com/privacy-policy/. This policy does not cover website checkout.
8. Where we store and process data
We are a U.S. company. Personal information may be stored and processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions that may have different data-protection laws than your home country.
We take reasonable steps to require service providers to protect personal information in line with this policy.
9. Data security and retention
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure hosting. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
We retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the App and for legitimate business or legal purposes. When you delete your account (see Section 10), we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we must retain it by law.
10. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including to:
- Access information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your account and associated data - in the App via Edit Parents Profile -> Delete Account, or by emailing hello@threadtheword.com;

11. Children's privacy
The App is intended for adults (expecting or prospective parents) and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us at hello@threadtheword.com and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at https://babynamefinder.threadtheword.com/privacy and update the "Last updated" date.
